Do you know about the World Sun Day? Have your Ukrainian lady heard about it?
The sun is the nearest star to the Earth, all the others are immeasurably farther from us. For example, the closest Proxima star from the Centauri Alpha system is 4.22 light-years from the Sun. For the Earth, the Sun is a powerful source of cosmic energy. It gives the light and heat necessary for the plant and animal world and forms the most important properties of the Earth's atmosphere. In general, the sun determines the ecology of the planet. Without it, there would be no air necessary for life - the air would turn into a liquid nitrogen ocean around the frozen waters and iced land. For us, earthlings, the most important feature of the Sun is that our planet has occurred near it, and life has appeared on it.

The sun, wind, sea waves and biomass are energy raw materials, which constantly surround us and which are easy to use. It does not have to be extracted from the ground. It does not lead to the formation of radioactive waste, and it does not produce toxic waste at all. It's renewable energy. To attract attention to the possibilities of using renewable energy sources, the European branch of the International Solar Society (ISES) (ISES-Europe), since 1994, voluntarily organizes the annual Sun Day, which is celebrated on May 3. Enthusiasts and professionals, public organizations and firms throughout Europe organize events of various kinds related to the demonstration of the possibilities of solar energy.

May 3, for the International Day of the Sun, various events take place. Open and public days are organized in experimental and private solar and energy efficient institutions, as well as research and design institutes. Their visit gives the public an opportunity to get acquainted with the ongoing projects and the latest achievements of science.
There are exhibitions and meetings, contests, competitions, races of solar cars and electric vehicles. Within the framework of the round tables, the technical, economic and social aspects of solar energy are discussed. A week before or after the Sun Day, there are seminars called "sunny week". In the framework of the celebration of this day, the competitions for school projects and drawings on this topic are also arranged. Annually in the program of this holiday about 14 countries are involved.
