"8th of March - the step towards the world revolution" - that was the name of the article written by Klara Zetkin - so-called the author of the holiday. 1910, 8th of March at the international women's conference in
Copenhagen she suggested holding of an annual celebration of
International Women's day. Started as a political event, the holiday mixed in the culture of many countries. It is a great day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. In other countries where the 8th of March is celebrated, it's usually a celebration of feminist and women's rights groups. But in Russia and Ukraine, the 8th of March is one of most favorite holidays for all Russian women and Ukrainian girls. For Russian ladies the 8th of March "The Women's day" is a holiday of Love and spring, a holiday of attention to women. It's one of most important holidays in Russia.
This is a national holiday and a day off. On this day men congratulate all women in their lives, their mothers and wives, daughters, grandmothers, girl-friends, sisters, brides by presenting them with first spring flowers, candies, cards, and poems. Every woman of any age is honored on this day. Russian women are surrounded with flowers, love and care. They are not allowed to do any work in house that day: men do all cooking, cleaning and take care of the children.
