The tradition to spend a day without a car began in England in 1997, and a year later passed in France. Then this day was celebrated in only two dozen cities. But by 2001, more than 1,000 cities in 35 countries had officially joined the movement. At present, according to rough estimates, more than 100 million people participate in this activity every year in 1,500 cities around the world. Understanding that in modern conditions it is simply impossible to completely abandon cars, the heads of cities and heads of various organizations want to remind the public about the problems that motor transport carries with them. At least once a year. The large cities of many countries reduce the use of cars this day in favor of a tram, trolley, bus, subway and other public transport, as well as bicycles and walking. In some cities specially organized events also take place this day.
